SWJS: Solar Water Jetting System For Agricultural Utilization
Innovillage 2023 is a Social Project competition event where the ideas or innovation concepts proposed in the competition are related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By focusing on these innovative ideas, this program aims to stimulate and facilitate young digital talents to continue to be creative in implementing social projects. The results are expected to not only provide concrete solutions to the problems of Indonesian society, but also create a significant positive impact to realize inclusive and sustainable national development.
Timen JaSu, one of the Innovillage teams from Telkom University Jakarta, also participated in the 2023 Innovillage competition and proposed the SWJS (Solar Water Jetting System) which was shown for Labuhan Jaya Village in Mesuji District, Ogan Komerin Hilir Regency, South Sumatra Province, Indonesia.
Labuhan Jaya Village has quite serious problems in the agricultural sector, the lack of irrigation systems for agricultural crops makes agricultural products in Labuhan Jaya Village less than optimal. According to local residents, one of the main factors in this irrigation problem is where the water source is very far from the agricultural area, making farmers in Labuhan Jaya Village, the majority of whom are elderly and lack energy, have difficulty doing the work.
“We really want to make a drilled well to make it easier to irrigate our farm, but because the electricity source is also very far from the farming area, it makes it difficult for us,” said one of the farmers when interviewed by Timen JaSu.
With the problems experienced by farmers in Labuhan Jaya Village, Timen JaSu proposed a Social Project which is a form of solution to the problems of farmers in Labuhan Jaya Village, namely SWJS, a drilled well agricultural irrigation system powered by solar panels.
This solution is designed to provide a holistic and sustainable approach to the use of solar panels in drilled wells, combining technical aspects, sustainability, and community participation in the management of the system. Effective water resources and irrigation are still very difficult to obtain in the Labuhan Jaya Village plantation because there is no electricity to be able to flow water in the farm, therefore with the presence of a tool called the “Solar Water Jetting System” it is expected to make it easier for farmers to get water sources and can irrigate their farms more efficiently.
