College Glossary #Part 1

Entering the world of college is a big step that brings various challenges and new experiences. One of the initial challenges that new students often face is understanding the various terms that exist in the world of college. These terms often sound foreign and confusing, but it is important for you to know so that you can navigate the campus life that you will live in the future smoothly. There are various new terms used in the world of college, these terms are very different from what you used when you were in high school or vocational school. Here are some new terms that we have summarized in the College Language Dictionary #Part 1:

  1. Subject

If at school it is called a subject (mapel), then at the tertiary level (college) it is usually called a course or students usually shorten it to matkul.

  1. SKS (Semester Credit System)

Credit Units used to measure the study load of students. Each course has a number of credits reflecting the study load of the course. One credit is usually equivalent to 1 hour of lecture.

  1. KRS (Study Plan Card)

A form containing a list of courses that will be taken by students during the next semester. Usually KRS registration is done at the beginning of the new semester.

  1. IP (Performance Index)

The number that shows the value of a student’s academic achievement. IP is calculated from the value of courses taken by students during their studies.

  1. IPS (Semester Achievement Index)

The average grade of courses taken by students during one semester.

  1. GPA (Cumulative Achievement Index)

The average value obtained by students from all courses taken during the study period (from the first semester to the current semester). GPA is also used to measure students’ academic achievement.

  1. KHS (Study Result Card)

A document that shows the results of the course grades taken by students in a particular semester. The Lecture Term Dictionary above includes academic terms commonly used in the world of lectures, by knowing these terms it is hoped that it can help new students better know and understand their lecture world.
